Professor Dorothy Oluwagbemi- Jacob attended University of Calabar where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1985. She obtained her Masters and PhD degrees in social and political philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1987 and 1994 respectively. She also has a post Graduate Diploma in Management and Masters Degree in Business Administration. Professor Oluwagbemi-Jacob has risen through the ranks at the University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria. She has also served the University in various capacities as examinations officer, coordinator, post graduate programme in Philosophy, coordinator, Philosophy and Logic at the Centre for General Studies, University of Calabar, Head of Department of Philosophy and Dean, Faculty of Arts. She has been rendering services to other Universities apart from her primary University of assignment in form of external examinations at first degree, Masters and PhD levels.
Her teaching assignments have covered several courses including logic, social and political philosophy, modern philosophy, philosophy of history, European philosophy, Kant’s and Hegel’s philosophy and gender/feminist philosophy.
Prof. Oluwagbemi-Jacob did her post doctoral fellowship at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) Yale University, New Haven-Connecticut, United States of America in 2003.
She belongs to several professional associations including:
Philosophical Association of Nigeria (PAN).
Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians (Circle)
Faculties of Arts-Humanities’ Scholars’ Association of Nigeria (FAHSANU)
Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL).
She is the founder and pioneer national president of Faculties of Arts-Humanities Scholars’ Association of Nigerian Universities (FAHSANU)
She has to her credit, several publications including published journal articles. She has attended seminars/conferences where she presented papers, including United States of America, South Africa, Cameroun, Ghana and Canada.
