Abstract

This essay examines the concept of nationalism as it applies to the cinema. Anchoring its thrust on the theoretical framework of genre studies in cinema, the study, in specific terms, analyzes how the historical issues revolving around agitations for resource control within the Niger Delta and South-South Nigeria have inspired the production of films which can be categorized as films of the Niger Delta ethnic nationalism genre. For purposes of textual analysis, Liquid Black Gold (Ikenna Aniekwe, 2008) is used as case study.
